Conditions

Below is a list of health conditions and some information, which is related to the activities that we have on offer. The assumption is made that medical help has already been sought before an activity is chosen.

Arthritis

Arthritis is a term used to describe a number of painful conditions of the joints and bones. The main symptoms of all forms of arthritis include stiffness, pain, restricted movements of the joints, swelling and warmth and redness of the skin over the joint. The symptoms may be reduced by massage and exercise.

Activities which may be relevant to you: Yoga, Tai Chi, massage and relaxation

Asthma

The symptoms of asthma include cough and wheeze, tightness of the chest and breathless.

Activities which may be relevant to you: Yoga, Tai Chi and exercise

Depression

Depression is quite a common condition, and about 15% of people will have a bout of severe depression at some point in their lives.

Activities which may be relevant to you: Exercise, meeting people, relaxation.

Insomnia

Insomnia is the disturbance of a normal sleep pattern. For example, when you cannot get to sleep or wake up after only a few hours sleep.

Activities which may be relevant to you: Relaxation, exercise, herbal remedies, lifestyle changes, meeting people.

Parkinson's Disease

In Parkinson's Disease there is stiffness and slowness of movement of the limbs and body, and sometimes an involuntary tremor or shaking.

Sciatica

Sciatica is pain in the back and down the leg from pressure on the sciatic nerve.

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease or COPD

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is the name for a collection of lung diseases including chronic bronchitis, emphysema and chronic obstructive airways disease, all of which can occur together.

Activities which may be relevant to you: Exercise, relaxation, Yoga, Tai Chi, meeting people, weight loss.

Coronary heart disease (CHD)

Coronary heart disease is the term that describes what happens when your heart's blood supply is interrupted, or blocked. If the blood supply to your heart is restricted, this can cause angina. If a coronary artery becomes completely blocked, it can cause a heart attack or myocardial infarction.

Activities which may be relevant to you in the rehabilitation or ‘living with it’ phase of your condition: Exercise, relaxation, Yoga, Tai Chi, meeting people.
